My Favorite Things To Do
With a casual east coast vibe this gorgeous beach town has everything you love about Florida but without the massive crowds. Sandy white beaches, cultural attractions, and genuine charm make New Smyrna Beach the perfect destination for a Florida vacation.
Besides the miles of beautiful white sand beaches and excellent surfing, there are many things to do in and around New Smyrna Beach with easy access to some major attractions. Here are my favorite things to do and places to eat.
-
Relax at the beach.
The beach is just a few steps from our door. Grab some beach chairs and an umbrella that I have provided for you and enjoy the ocean.
-
Watch the wildlife.
From the condo, you’re sure to spot turtles, rabbits, lizards, and butterflies. If you look towards the water you will probably catch a glimpse of passing dolphins.
-
Catch the sunrise or sunset.
Watch the beautiful sunrise in the morning from the private balcony, or take a stroll on the beach. You can view the sunsets from the front door facing west, or walk across the street to JB’s Fish Camp and view it from their large outdoor deck while enjoying live music.
-
Take surf lessons.
Feel like being adventurous, you can book surf lessons at many surf shops on the island or call our local contact who will come to you for private lessons.
-
Make the most of rainy days.
If the weather isn’t cooperating, visit the Volusia Mall or Tanger Outlet Mall nearby, see a movie, or hang out indoors and play board games (located in the tv cabinet).
-
Visit Canal Street historic district.
There’s always something happening on Canal Street. Don’t miss The Hub where you’ll find the work of 80 local artists. Every month there’s something to do from music festivals to 3rd Thursday nights where the party is in the street. Canal Street is the perfect place to explore unique shops and restaurants.
-
Take a day trip.
Visit Kennedy Space Center. Learn the history, touch a moon rock, see what it feels like with simulators, and even talk to a real astronaut.
A visit to St. Augustine will make you feel like you stepped back in time. The nation’s oldest city is a history buff’s paradise. Must-sees are the Castillo de San Marcos and Ponce de Leon’s Fountain of Youth.
If you’re looking for a change of scenery, head up to Daytona Beach, a favorite spring break destination that’s a blast anytime. You’ll be there in just a 20-minute drive.
Visit Orlando. If you are interested in Disney and Universal Studios for a day, no problem, it’s only an hour away.
-
Visit cultural and historical landmarks.
Visit the Ponce Inlet Lighthouse. It’s a historic lighthouse built in 1887 at Ponce de Leon Inlet, about 25 minutes away from New Smyrna Beach. The 175-feet bright orange lighthouse is among the tallest in the country. While there you can climb the 203 steps of the lighthouse and be treated to a mesmerizing ocean view (or if you aren’t up for climbing the steps, just look at the ocean from my balcony, it’s just as good).
A stop at Old Fort Park is a must in New Smyrna Beach. Step back in time at this unique site where settlers in the past have left the foundations of a building for us to experience in awe.
-
Visit the Marine Discovery Center.
The Discovery Center features thousands of species of local plants and animals that live in the area’s rivers, sea, and marshlands. The center is part zoo, part aquarium, and part museum. It’s one of those attractions that shouldn’t be passed up, especially by those traveling with children.
